I have been trying to convince Karl and Jeff to come up and ride the Windrock singletrack since we found it 2 months ago. I think I can say, they are probably glad they finally came up. We rode (what has got to be the best singletrack) Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Friday night we rode Trails 1, 2, 24 and 22 to get them warmed and into the swing of Windrock dirt and rock. As usual Jeff has got way more throttle than brains and crashed pretty good twice right in front of me. The first time was a good tank swapper on slick, hard packed red clay. The second was a good water bar jump into a turn. He high sided over the berm and flew into a honey-suckle bush. Karl and I laughed real hard for quite a while on that one.
Saturday we hit the Duncan Flats singletrack and had a rough time between the humidity and heat. We didn’t plan well enough and didn’t bring enough food and water. We got whipped. Karl was borrowing my 150 and while he rode well, that bike is just too small for this kind of work. He bent the shifter peg and broke the clutch lever. No big deal, that is not the first time the clutch lever has been bent and it won’t be the last. Good thing they are $5.
Sunday Karl headed off the do DH runs with James, Loo etc. while Jeff, Matt and I headed off to find the other singletrack on Brown Flats. Luckily we ran into a bunch of guys on KTMs and they directed us to the start. Wow, this stuff was way harder than Duncan Flats. It was much tighter, had more rocks, lots of mud, and some deep ruts.
All in all it was a great weekend and I can’t wait for these boys to get back up here. Sunday evening Meghann and I took Jasper on a bike ride in his new bike trailer. Meghann found this online and its pretty nice. I think he had a good time, but I don’t think he fully understood what was going on.
Also, look what he has already learned to do.
