Fishing the Clinch

Took some time this morning to get in some fishing with Curt. It was relaxing to get back on the river and get away from the training and work.

Raccoon and Carter’s Lake DH

This past weekend Ziska and I headed to the Carter’s Lake Mini DH race, which is part of a local series put on by Brady down in Georgia. Before we headed to Carter’s Lake just outside of Ellijay, Ga, we headed to ride some XC at Raccoon Mtn in Chattanooga. The SORBA chaper down that way has built some unbelievable trails that have some of the best flow of any trail I’ve ridden. Its about equal up and down, but the downhill runs are full of berms, sweepers, jumps, and rocks. I’ve got to figure out how they did it. A trail system like that around here would blow some people’s minds.

After about 15 miles of XC and some hot temps, we headed onto Carter’s Lake about an hour away. We met up with Jeff and Karl and got some thing to eat. Karl asks the waitress which way to the Gun Show.

And if you know Vic, then you’ll find this funny. Vic is a local where ever he goes.

The race course was short, but well built and loads of fun. I was 50/50 on which bike to ride. There were some sections that smaller bike did better in and there were some sections that a big bike did better in, but in the end I rode my Shova and used its advantages to get 3rd. It seems Bloch and I’s head to head battle continues as he finished just over a half a second faster than me. I thought for sure I had him since he was 3 seconds down in the first run, but I’m sure that was more than enough motivation for him to pour it on in the second run. Next time boy!

Here are some hijacked pics I stole.

Windrock Explored

This afternoon was so nice. The temperature and humidity were down and the sky was blue and filled with white, puffy clouds. I really wanted to do a nice ride somewhere other than Haw, Norris, or Concord. I called Jeff and we headed off to Windrock. We bought a map and headed to the North side of the mountain. We started on Trail 3 and then took a hell of trail that hooked us into Trail 39. The connector trail was some of the gnarliest terrain I’ve ever seen and damn near impossible to ride on a bike. We walked a lot of it. We finished off the day by riding down Snakerock. It was awesome to see Jeff ide down it on s 29er. But the ride was great and ended up being an awesome loop. Jeff got some pictures and the trail data on his GPS. Look to his blog for a summary.

Mo Town BMX

We’ll its been a while since I raced bmx in Morristown, well anywhere for that matter. So after working a lot this week and even for a couple hours today, I needed some good pain. And bmx usually provides that big time leg burn.

Meghann joined me and we had a good time together. She took some shots. There weren’t many racers and I even raced in a gate by myself. I guess it was easy to get first that way, but as some kid said I finished last as well.
