This past weekend Joey and I drove down to New Orleans to hang with Loo and Scuba. On our way we stopped by and hung with Karl for a night in Birmingham. Needless to say it was interesting. We met Road Warrior and played some pool at The Nick, which is a famous dive.
Friday morning we finished the drive to NO and met up with Loo and Scuba at Gene’s place on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. The area is a great little place with a pretty good set of dirt jumps and a mile mini bike woods trail. Loo and Scuba grilled some tasty treats and we started in one some cold beverages.
Saturday we hit up another set of dirt jumps at the spillway. They were easy and pretty fun to get nice flow going. Too short and steep to really hang it out but nice nonetheless. For lunch we hit Crazy Johnny’s for BBQ shrimp, the Draco’s for charbroiled oysters, and then Morning Cafe for beignets. The bill was around $60 per person. Totally worth it. The oysters are in my top five best food of all time for me.
In a stroke of blind luck Saturday night was the Krewe du Vieux, which is the locals kick off to Mardi Gras season. It was like a game day tail game on steroids. It clearly is something special for locals. Everyone had something planned. The parade was nothing like I expected based off my Galveston Mardi Gras experience. There it was pretty commercial and fairly organized. Krewe du Vieux was loosy goosy and one wild party.
Sunday we rode the spillway XC trail and jumped a bit more on the DJs. Then picked up some shrimp and crabs for a boil at Scuba’s. All in all the trip was lazy and a great get away. Glad I went.
