The 2010 Fall Festival is in the books. We held it the same weekend as the ATV jamboree just as last year. However last year they ran most of the ATV stuff out of the campground. This year it was out of the main parking area and it just created a few headaches for us. Next year I think we’ll go a week earlier.
The weekend was a roaring success. We raised a bunch of money for trail building and everyone had a great time. Or at least I think so. Dennis had a good write up here:
And of course what is the Fall Fest without Karl and Braswell. Karl was recovering from a knee injury on his moto at Windrock back in late May, so he was in full “harass-a-phone” effect.
The next weekend was Hawkoween, but I had to work on Saturday so doing the race was out for me. Instead Meg, Wyatt and I went to Boo at the Zoo on Friday night and did some 4 wheeling at the Sand Minds on Saturday evening. After some dinner at Cracker Barrel, I loaded up the truck and Joey and I headed to Banner Elk around 10:30pm. We got up and did some super fun runs at Hawks Nest on its last day of existence. unfortunately its mtb trails are being shut down. I couldn’t believe how much fun those trails were in the dry. That was the first and last time I’ve ever ridden them dry.
Then this last weekend I swapped days and took Friday off and headed over to Geritt’s Guy Fawkes pumptrack party. Joey and I bought $160 worth of firework and I think everyone enjoyed them with a few exceptions.
On the way over the mtns I got caught behind a minivan doing well below the speed limit in the passing lane. I flashed my lights and she still didn’t move over, so I got in the slow lane and passed. I was greeted with a finger gesture from an over weight slob with Loudon county plates. How nice.
Geriit’s track was like Doug kryptonite. It was precise and very tight. I don’t think I looked to too much of a goon, but I had limited lines so I made the best of the party.
We headed back early on Saturday as I was trying to meet up with some guys to do a dirt bike ride. Couldn’t get that confirmed so I headed to the Windrock campground and did some maintenance. Sunday, I wrapped up a pretty good weekend with a loop around Duncan’s and Brown’s on the KTM.
