Last October (in preparation for the baby), Meghann and I bought a toy hauler. We wanted to still do the things that we do now even with the baby and his needs. So the best way was to get a travel trailer so we can have running water, heat, AC, power, and cold food no matter where we go. We got to use it one night at the Icycle back in Feburary, but this was our first maiden voyage. I had winterized it back in the fall and hoped to not have any issues related to cold weather storage. Well due to a design flaw, water got trapped in the galley faucet and had frozen some time over the winter and cracked the plastic. So after a few exciting days fixing the faucet we got packed up and drove to Roan Mtn State Park Friday afternoon.
The campground is nice, but a little too “for everybody” for me. Its a typical state park with camping spots crammed right in on top of others. But luckily it was empty on this weekend so we did have to share our outdoor camping experience with ever other city slicker looking for nature.
Friday was awesome. It was warm and sunny. We cooked Elk burgers and watched a movie on the DVD player. Yep we are really ruffing it.
Saturday morning it started raining. We expected it, but it still puts a damper on things. Saturday around noon I met up with Ben, James, Jeremy, Dave, Kenan, Mike, and Andrew for some killer riding in NC just a few miles from Roan Mtn. We set up the shuttle and we off. I don’t know the total distance, but I would say probably 15-20 miles with three killer descents and 2 moderate climbs. I am really bad at guessing mileage, so I am probably way off. I would put this ride in my top 5 of all time. Mix in some crappy weather, good riders, and going places not many others have and it was great.
